Full and Part Time Staff Interpreters
Contract Interpreters
Account Manager/Business Development
Human Resources/Training Manager

Sign Shares is seeking qualified applicants to fill administrative support positions, to join our professional staff and to increase partnerships with private practitioners.  Sign Shares continues to lead this developing industry in the Gulf Coast Region and is increasingly involved in negotiations for services provided in the Northwest and in communities nationwide.  Administrative staff positions will enhance our ability to support this development while maintaining a continuum of quality services.  Please consider any of the positions outlined below either for yourself or for someone you might know.

Full and Part Time Staff Interpreters

Sign Shares currently has 3 Staff Interpreter positions available. Staff Interpreters work exclusively for Sign Shares.  They are supervised, provided ongoing opportunities for training and given first refusal for evening/weekend and emergency work. Sign Shares depends on staff to insure availability of personnel regardless of qualification necessary or advance notice.  In return, Sign Shares consistently compensates staff at or above national standards, providing a teamwork environment with an excellent wage and benefit package.

Duties and Position
Staff interpreters are hired to interpret or transliterate in a myriad of community and educational assignments or in one specialty area, determined by personal interest and qualification. Staff may work additional administrative support hours as “lead” mentor or for special projects.

Full Time Staff are assigned work during regular business hours, enjoy full benefits (employee status, regular payroll schedule, vacation, health, Workers Compensation, paid professional fees, and training) and are given first priority when qualified for special events, after hours and emergency assignment.

Part-time Staff Interpreters work flexible hours, determining their own availability. Some may work an educational calendar or work primarily in another profession, while others may enjoy the freedom of making commitments on a daily basis. Part time staff may or may not be eligible for full benefits as benefits are determined by eligibility.

Qualification and Compensation
Candidates must hold a minimum of an AA Degree in Interpreter Training and State or National Certification.  Seasoned, experienced interpreters and transliterators who have worked in the field for 3 to 5 years and are “otherwise qualified” are also encouraged to apply.  Wages are based on education and certification, specialty training and years of experience. It is not unusual for a full time staff interpreter to earn between 40 and 60K per year depending on hours worked and qualification.  Sign Shares will consider a moving benefit for interpreters who may wish to relocate.

Contract Interpreters

Sign Shares utilizes independent service providers to provide services when volume fluctuates, when contracts require special skills or ongoing assignment, when services are required in rural areas or when emergency response dictates the closest qualified interpreter anywhere, nationwide.

Assignments are currently available for K-12, college and university educational contracts and recurring community assignments.  Temporary but ongoing assignments are also available for the myriad of community clientele we serve which includes but is not limited to conferences, medical and mental health, legal and Court and for clientele who are in graduate and professional level specialty venues.  The volume of work offered a contract interpreter is determined by, his or her qualification for any specific clientele and venue, proximity to location, availability and cost of service.

Private practitioners contract for specific clientele on a specific day or dates.  The contractor works in cooperation with Sign Shares but operates as an independent business entity.  All services provided through Sign Shares are strictly confidential and considered proprietary.

Registering with Sign Shares
Standard procedure is for contractor to provide Sign Shares with a business vita, terms, hourly rates and availability.  We encourage private practitioners to meet with us to insure all documentation, policy and procedure and terms are clearly defined and understood by both parties.  Sign Shares negotiates with interpreters to insure contracts are mutually beneficial.

Account Management/ Business Development

Sign Shares is seeking personnel knowledgeable in sales and marketing to maintain relationships with client entities, maintain and develop client accounts, and to monitor quality control and customers’ preferences.  Working closely with top management, this employee will assist with proposal writing, in developing potential markets and strategies, coordinating marketing efforts, working as the liaison between the firm and advertising or promotion agency(s).

Qualification and Compensation
Prefer a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis on marketing, a bachelor’s degree in advertising or journalism. Familiarity with word-processing and database applications is vital. An individual certified as a sign language interpreter who has knowledge of industry standards is not necessary but would be ideal.  Starting offer will be at $ 30,000 a year with a bonus differential for individuals who also qualify as sign language interpreter and bonus incentives for quantifiable market growth.

Human Resources/Training and Quality Control

This administrative team member will coordinate all personnel related matters.  This would include maintaining employment and training records, gathering documentation for determination of qualification.  Additionally, this individual will coordinate all training activities to enhance the agency’s ability to effectively use employee and independent contractor skills, provide training and development opportunities to enhance qualification for client venues, maintain and improve job skills and possibly prepare for jobs requiring greater skill, to increase job satisfaction and working conditions.
